Spurs vs Warriors: Spurs beat Warriors, 118-98

To win during the seven-game stretch that started Tuesday night, the Warriors are going to need to play close to perfect basketball, and they weren’t anywhere close against San Antonio.

The Spurs turned the Warriors into a jump-shooting team, took advantage of 16 turnovers and had the best two players on the floor in a 118-98 victory that sent 17,877 fans racing for the Oracle Arena exits with 4 1/2 minutes left.

“I didn’t think we had the energy necessary to play against this team,” Warriors coach Keith Smart said. “I think we were a little stagnant here and there, and they invited us to take the jump shot. I think sometimes our guys drive to the hole and don’t get a call, so that puts them in a jump-shooting mind-set.”

Trouble awaits. The game marked the first of a stretch for the Warriors in which they play six teams with winning records. They’ve beaten only two teams with winning records this season (Utah and New York).
